香港的水質，一直由水務署水質科學部嚴格監控。遇有水質問題，如水源污染、食水異味、新興污染物等，不時引起公眾和傳媒的廣泛關注。面對此等挑戰，水質科學部在控制食水處理過程中擔當重要角色，確保食水安全，保障市民健康。
本書回顧水務署五十年來的水質監控歷史、原水資源的處理、水質標準的發展、介紹最新監測科技，並有歷年水務署同事的文章及專訪，記載難忘回憶。

Safe drinking water is essential to the protection of public health and is perennially a top priority for the community of Hong Kong. From time to time, a diversity of issues ranging from pollution of raw water source, taste and odour problem to emerging contaminants have attracted widespread public and media concerns. Facing these challenges, the Water Science Division has been playing a key role in controlling water treatment processes to ensure the safety of water supply in Hong Kong.
This book includes chapters relating the history of water quality monitoring and control by Water Supplies Department, control and treatment of raw water resources, development and evolution of water quality standards, development of new monitoring technologies and a collection of articles and interviews of colleagues from Water Supplies Department.
