Studies of Ethnomusicology, No. 5: Papers and Proceedings of the International Seminar on Aesthetics of Chinese Music
The "Collected Essays on Aesthetics of Chinese Music" is a collection of papers presented at a Seminar on Aesthetics of Chinese Music jointly organised by the Centre of Asian Studies of the University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Ethnomusicology Society, in December 1994. There are altogether 23 papers, supplemented by commentaries, discussions and summaries. These papers, commentaries and summaries have address the themes of aesthetics of Chinese music in general, aesthetics of new music in China; aesthetics of European and Soviet music and their influence on Chinese music; aesthetics of vocal music; musical thought of scholars and composers. Aesthetics of Chinese music has not yet been developed into a proper discipline, and it is hoped that this collection of essays will serve as a useful reference for scholars of aesthetics of Chinese music. |
