《羅密歐與茱麗葉》是英國大文豪莎士比亞家喻戶曉的戲劇，莎翁擅長說故事，對劇情的鋪陳和人物內心的刻畫，皆有獨到之處。本書故事的男女主角羅密歐和茱麗葉來自兩個世仇家族，卻不可自拔地對彼此一見鍾情。然而，家族仇恨、街頭喋血、謀殺罪，一步步迫使這對命運多舛的戀人，走向生命的盡頭，用令人同情又不必要的死亡，埋葬了父母的仇恨。
戲中使人興嘆的瑰麗詩句與年輕愛侶受世仇所害的命運，讓《羅密歐與茱麗葉》成為莎士比亞的曠世佳作，也是其中一部最常被搬上舞台的劇作。
The setting of Romeo and Juliet is the city of Verona in Italy, where the Montague family and the Capulet family have long been enemies. One day the Capulets hold a party, and Romeo, the only son of the Montagues, sneaks into it. There Romeo meets the Capulets’ daughter Juliet, and they fall in love at first sight. Their love is so strong that they cannot live without each other even if a family feud stands in their way. Romeo and Juliet is one of William Shakespeare’s best-known works and has been adapted into numerous forms since it was written.
