商品簡介 |
Through Sir Shouson Chow’s life of trails and hardships, we get a picture of modern China and exciting changes as history developed. On the other hand, we can feel the tiny city of Hong Kong’s important position of bringing the East and West, the Chinese and the Westerners together. As for Shouson Chow, his life was a typical Hong Kong story: he was born in Hong Kong, studied in the United States, worked for the Qing, served the Hong Kong colonial government, and established himself in both the political and business worlds.
Dr. Victor Zheng is currently Research Assistant Professor of the Centre of Asian Studies at the Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences, the University of Hong Kong. His research interests include: Chinese family businesses and inheritance; Hong Kong commercial history and society; Hong Kong and Macao social indicators; social transformation and identity; and gender studies.
Dr. Charles W. Chow was born in Tientsin, China, and moved to Hong Kong to live with his grandfather, Sir Shouson Chow, at Shouson Hill in 1931. He attended Ling Nam and Chung Wah elementary schools followed by the high school Wah Yan College. Then, he traveled to the United States, where he obtained B.S. and M.S. degrees from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. After teaching high school for six years, he received a dental degree from Ohio State University and practiced dentistry in Columbus, Ohio for forty years. Since 2004, Dr. Chow has enjoyed retirement with his wife, Lonnie. |
