Neuroprotection refers to the preservation of neuronal structure and function. It is a therapy option for a variety of central nervous system (CNS) disorders comprising spinal cord injury, neurodegenerative diseases, traumatic brain injury, stroke and acute control of neurotoxin ingestion. Neuroprotection is focused on stopping or slowing down the loss of neurons in order to avoid or limit disease progression and consequent damage.
