Although known for its skyscrapers, Hong Kong is also home for a rich variety of dragonflies. 前市政局在1995年出版了第一本有關香港蜻蜓的書籍，當中記錄了102個品種。作者於1997年在Memoirs of the Hong Kong Natural History Society中發表的香港蜻蜓註解名冊裏，多加了5個品種。其後，漁農自然護理署於2001至2003年其間進行了大量的野外考察，取得有關香港蜻蜓分布的新資料。本書提供了最新的分布數據和4個新發現品種的資料。現在，香港可以找到111種蜻蜓。
