Tian Jiaqing is an influential classical furniture expert at home and abroad. In the recent dozen years, by studying furniture of the Ming and Qing dynasties, and regarding it as works of art, Tian has designed and produced his own furniture under the name of “Modern Ming” with the style of the day. Carrying the essence of traditional culture but revealing innovation and breakthrough in model designing, handicraft and structural setup, etc., these works display a brand-new outlook, drawing attention from both domestic and overseas artistic circles, and winning him the fame of performing “contemporary classic.”
Supplemented by descriptions and over 100 nice pictures, this book incorporated Tian’s more than 40 pieces of furniture in two series: “Ming Yun Series” and “The Works by Jiaqing Series”. The old-fashioned long narrow tables, desks, bookracks, beds, couches, bookshelves, and other varieties, are all included. The author introduced what he learned and realized in designing and making furniture, together with some of his knacks. The book is also appended with the surveying and mapping drawings for more than 10 pieces of furniture.
By fully exhibiting the grace of these works, as well as the ideas guiding the designer’s artistic creation, this book is a good volume for the academic community, collectors, art circles, and furniture industry.
