Studies of Ethnomusicology No. 6: Asian Music with Special Reference to China and India - Music Symposia of the 34th International Congress of Asian and North African Studies.
During the 34th International Congress of Asian and North African Studies held in Hong Kong in 1993, seven symposia on Asian music were organized by Dr. Liu Ching-chih of the Centre of Asian Studies . The sessions examined subjects from the evolution of the Chinese music and contemporary music in Hong Kong, to the general development of musical traditions and the music of India. Fourteen of the papers from these symposia, together with an earlier essay by Dr. Liu on Cultural Revolution musical works, have been selected for this volume. Seven are in English and eight are in Chinese. All but two relate to music in Chinese societies, and as such this volume provides a useful overview of recent research in Chinese music, traditional and contemporary. |
