"The Whole World, the Whole Man" was the name of an international conference held at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities to mark Alexander von Humboldt's 250th birthday. The results of this conference are collected in this volume, which is a panorama of international Humboldt research, as polyphonic and multilingual as the honored man himself.
