6 decades of photos show how park life changed, through the seasons and the decades. Featured are two events the drastically altered the Yellowstone Landscape: the 1959 earthquake and the 1988 fires. The earthquake was magnitude 7.3, resulted in a large landslide that sent 50 million cubic yards of debris down the south side of Madison Canyon and dammed the Madison River. The Yellowstone fires of 1988 formed the largest wildfire recorded in YNP and closed the Park for the first time in its history 800,000 acres burned 36% of the Park.
