Annie Summerhill thinks of herself as one who can provide refuge and protection for those who need help, especially indigenous women who are members of the Oneida nation.

Lukas Mattson thinks of her as a stubborn, strong-willed beauty who takes way too many risks. From the first time he saw her, beaten and kidnapped by her best friend's ex, he has wanted her and knows she needs him.
