In novel one, Father Al Takes a Vacation, Father Al, a burned-out priest trying to manage three parishes, decides to take a sabbatical. He gets permission from his diocese to take a six-month trip on a cruise ship--around the solar system
During that unusual cruise, he learns things about himself and his fellow passengers that he never imagined. He falls in love, helps several women give birth, is embroiled in a court case, performs a wedding on Mars, meets an outcast called a Lilith, meets a Pope and inadvertently begins a new science involving human/A-I interfaces--quite a list for one man on vacation.
His voyage of discovery continues in novel two, Father Al Celebrates a Birthday Milestone. He sees his life extended because of the science of human/A-I interface he pioneered, marries a remarkable woman born on Mars, helps a dear friend and her daughter through difficult times, goes on a second, nostalgic cruise and witnesses unprecedented events and advances in human/A-I technology made possible by A-Is themselves.
Novel three, Father Al Sees the Future, concludes the trilogy. Father Al reaches an unprecedented age, again due to human/A-I technology, and sees his son embark on a colonizing trip to another solar system. What that mission discovers, once again changes Father Al's life, only this time he must make a decision that will take him and his loved ones on a one-way trip far from any solar system to the very heart of deep space.
